A SHRINE is a groundbreaking feature film directed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abdolreza Kahani, and produced between Canada, Iran, and France. Shot entirely in Montreal in 2024, the film had its world premiere at the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland, where it received strong critical attention. It went on to screen at numerous international festivals and was praised by critics for its bold form and raw emotional power, before becoming available worldwide on Apple TV.
What sets A SHRINE apart is not only its story and vision, but also its unique production method. Created entirely without a film crew and shot with a single mobile phone, it marks the first feature film in the world made using this approach. Kahani has named this radical method “Single-Person Cinema” — a new frontier in independent filmmaking.
